Creating a healthy mindset to support a healthy lifestyle

Mindset refers to set of beliefs we have about ourselves and our potential. Mindfulness is how we notice the way we identify our ideas and beliefs. Mindset and mindfulness complement each other hand in hand.

A good mindset and mindfulness helps us to increase our ability to regulate emotions which can help with better health and wellness but also planning and problem solving in life on the daily basis.

Good health goes hand in hand with good mindset - they support each other.

My tips for Mindset and Mindfulness

1. Focus on what you can control

Being positive is important, no matter what the situation. Sure, I understand that sometimes things just feel overwhelming & too much, but we have to focus on what we can control. We can control how we respond to things & what emotions we choose to associate with the situation.

If you get angry or upset, then the only person that this affects is you - instead choose to see everything as an opportunity.

2. Talk Positively

Always talk positively about a situation & about other people.

This includes positive self talk. talk to yourself the way you would talk to others. Don't be cruel or unkind to yourself.

The more you talk positively the less likely you are to get caught up in a negative spiral of doom & gloom.

It's really true that positivity attracts more positivity.

3. Focus on the good things

No matter how small or however bad a situation is, choose to focus on the good things.

My favourite life quotes of all time are

"Everyday may not be good ..but there's something good in every day” Alice Morse Earle

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Wayne Dryer

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it” Charles R. Swindoll

Positive thinking reduces stress which can improve your health and well being.

4. Practice daily gratitude & take responsibility

Take a few moments at the beginning & end of each day and ask yourself:

  • What am I grateful for?

  • How could I have made today better?

This can be something as small as having a comfortable bed or having spent time with people you love. Maybe it's having good health.

In terms of how you could have made today better? Was there something you would like to improve upon? Waking up earlier, going to bed earlier, doing a little more exercise, not having eaten that extra chocolate bar? It can be small or large but just notice 1-3 thing s that you are grateful for & 1-3 things that you could have done to make your day better.

5. Turn failures into lessons for growth without holding any grudges

Ok, so things didn't turn out quite as you had planned. That's life sometimes.

But don't get upset my it - don't let one small thing ruin everything. Take a linger term outlook.

Look for what you can learn from what has happened. As the question, was there anything I could have done differently. If the answer is not, then think about how you might choose to do something different or avoid being in the same situation int he future.

Don't' blame anyone else or hold grudges - people rarely do mean things deliberately & if they do, just feel some empathy for them. What must they have been feeling or are feeling that means that they felt that was the only option available to them. Ask how you could improve things for them & if you don't feel that you can, then remove the feelings & move on - take it purely as a lesson that will build resilience in you for the future.

6. Surround yourself with positive mentors/friends/co workers

They say that you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with.

So make sure you choose wisely & choose a community that supports you, inspires you & generally make your life better.

Get rid of negative or toxic people from your life, or if you can't then choose not to engage with them any more than you need to. Respond to all their negativity with pure love & positivity.

Need help?

I hope some of these tips can help you get more out of your life, however I understand it can sometimes be hard. That's why it's great to have a coach - they inspire you, they motivate you, they hold you accountable - they're your cheerleader. I'd love to be that for you.
